Fitzroy Harbour hosted the Ontario Amateur Softball Association eastern qualifier for Squirt U12 this past weekend. There were 11 teams participating, to be seeded as "A", "B" or "C" for provincial tournaments in August.Springbrook Royals won the event with a 4-1 record, defeating Napanee Express (4-2) in the "if necessary" game.
The Westport Storm finished in third spot with a 4-2 record losing both times to Napanee. Stouffville ended with a 3-2 record and fourth spot.
The host West Carleton team opened up with a 6-2 win over Campbellord, with the Caveman earning the victory striking out eight and allowing only four hits. The host's next game was a 14-4 loss to the eventual champions from Springbrook, after the locals held the Royals to a 5-4 lead until the fifth. West Carleton was eliminated by Stouffville by a score of 9-5 on Sunday morning.
Other teams participating were from Laurentian Valley, Oshawa, Greely, Micksburg, and Tweed.
Thanks to the hard working grounds staff, the OASA convenors, the officials, the scorekeepers (Helene and Pugger) and firefighters from Ottawa Station 62 (bbq and onsite medical) who all helped to make the event a success.
